Cold Cold Cold Mack and I had been wondering why the water termperature at the beach had gotten so low: more like San Diego than Daytona Beach in July. Turns out that it's a phenomenon known as 'upswelling' in which cold water comes up from deeper levels of the ocean. Good thing I lived in New England once upon a time. One day at Ogunquit, the air temperature was 95-degrees F and the water temperature was 55-degrees F. Makes the 70-degree F water temperatures of San Diego -- or of Daytona Beach right now -- seem warm. |
