Carter's Prize Folks (including Howard Owens) have been asking: "What did Jimmy Carter really do to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?". Well, he did put into place the plan that eventually led to Pershing IIs being installed in Europe, an act that I still believe positively contributed to the decline of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. That's probably more important in the longer run than having lunch with Castro. |
